10 ideas for activities

These are some ideas for things you could do with your child while the school is closed.

Second Class

1. Read a variety of books.
2. Spellings – practice different spelling groups – you can look up Dolch words online.
3. Writing activity – Write a story (include characters, place, starting event, problem and resolution).

– Write a recipe
– Write about an event in their day ( keep a diary)

4. Do a project on your favourite animal or country.
5. Crafts – cutting & sticking activities, drawing etc.
6. Physical activities.
7. Play board games or children’s card games – can be learning based, social skills, turn taking etc.
8. Maths – revision of all addition and subtraction tables to date. practice, halves and quarters of numbers, reading
time on analog and digital clocks or watches (half past, quarter, quarter to) skip counting in 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, 10’s,
learn addition and subtraction tables, play shop with your child and figure out change from €1 and €2
9. Invent a board game incorporating a skill in literacy or numeracy e.g. adding board game.
10. Practice tying your laces
