#Run Around Europe
In October 2023, we participated in the Run Around Europe Challenge.
It’s spread out over 4 weeks and our aim is to make it through 10 cities and then back to Dublin by the end of term.
So far, we have made it through London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Warsaw, Kyiv, Bucharest, Athens, Zagreb and have just made it to Rome!
This means we’ve run a Challenge equivalent of 6,546km, which is fantastic.
The whole school has been running, from Junior Infants up to 6th class and we’re hoping to make it from Rome to Paris and back to Dublin in time for next Friday, when we’ll be starting our well-earned break.
#Relays take Over
In September 2024, the children participated in the #relaystakeover challenge as part of the Active Schools Flag Programme.
Each class ran a set distance, handing the baton over to one another as they ran the distances.
Well done to all involved and the co-operation they showed to complete the challenge together.
Together, the classes ran over 42,000 metres.
Active Break Challenge
– December 2024
In December 2024, all classes took part in the Active Break Challenge whereby teachers took time each day to do movement breaks in the classroom. The children enjoyed following along with the different challenges each day and it was a great break from all of the hard work they had been doing.
Orienteering
4th class headed outside for orienteering in January 2205 following clues and maps to find the clues.
Skip Around Europe – April 2025
This month the children will be participating in the skip around europe challenge. Each day the children will be skipping to new destinations around Europe, counting their skips as they go.
St. Andrew’s National School Active Walkway
– May 2025
Introducing St. Andrew’s National School Active Walkway – helping to support sport and fitness within the school.
On different occasions, teachers may take their class outside for a walk along the walkway and complete accompanying activities.
Santry
– May 2025
What a fantastic day out at Santry for our 5th and 6th class athletes! Under clear blue skies and glorious sunshine, our students competed in a range of events, including sprints, long distance, high jump, long jump, shot putt, and relay races.
There were some brilliant performances on the day, with Sam Varzevicius taking home a gold medal in the U14 600m race after an incredible run 🥇Alice Champarnaud showed great strength and technique in the shot putt, earning a silver medal 🥈 while Piotr Weber impressed in the Race of Champions, proudly winning a bronze medal. 🥉
Many of our students came close to the podium, just narrowly missing out on medals, but they all gave their best and should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Throughout the day, every child showed great sportsmanship, determination, and team spirit.
It was also the first official outing for our new school jerseys—and they looked fantastic on the track! The students wore them with pride, representing St. Andrew’s NS with excellent behaviour and enthusiasm all day long.
A big thank you to Mrs Harper and Mrs Owens for accompanying me on the day and supporting the children so brilliantly. Huge thanks also to all the teachers involved in organising and running the heats in the lead-up to the competition.
Well done to everyone involved! 🙌
Ms. Smith
